Mackie Editions printing press was converted from a Victorian era mangle.
Mangles were used to squeeze water out of clothes after washing.
The 1910 mangle was manufactured in England by W. Summerscale & Sons Ltd. It made the voyage by ship to one of the commercial laundries operated in the historic Chinatown area of Victoria, BC, Canada.
The mangle was purchased by Mackie Editions in 2003 from a local hardware store and converted to a printing press.
Except for the rollers, the mangle press retains all its original parts. New chrome steel rollers and bearings were added, as well as the large press bed.
This impressive heritage mangle has found new life.
Laurie Mackie creates limited edition lithographs and monoprints on this unique press.
